Kleingölitz

Kleingölitz was incorporated in 1993. The district of Kleingölitz, which belongs to the town of Bad Blankenburg, lies at the foot of the Kesselwände and originated in the 11th and 12th centuries, with the first written mentions as "Golys" and "Wenyngin Geels" only appearing around 200 years later. The place name goes back to the Slavic "goly" (bare) or "gola" (heath) and refers to the strikingly bare and steep mountain terrain of the limestone cliffs in the northern part of both areas, which, together with the pleasant climate and wonderful hiking trails, invite you to linger. In the 18th century, the medieval wine-growing area of the Gölitz was transformed into lavender plantations. The revival of this tradition in the 1990s with a lavender festival and lavender queen earned Bad Blankenburg the name "lavender corner in the Thuringian herb garden". Today, Kleingölitz invites visitors to enjoy convivial highlights on the newly designed festival square or in the Kulturhaus.
