Ziegenrück is a rural town in the Saale-Orla district in southeastern Thuringia and the fifth smallest town in Germany.
The town lies in the deeply cut valley of the Saale between the Bleiloch reservoir upstream and the Hohenwartest reservoir downstream. Since the cramped geographic location prevented further development, Ziegenrück is now one of the smallest towns in Thuringia. The small town offers versatile possibilities for recreation and sports activities. Besides the church from the 13th century, a visit to the hydroelectric power museum, one of the oldest run-of-river power plants in Germany still preserved in its original state, is especially recommended. Walking along the quiet Saale promenade, you will come across the 330-million-year-old "Schieferfalte" - a geological natural monument. To enjoy the most beautiful views of the vacation town, hikes or bike rides, also with the electrically powered pedelecs, are ideal.
