The Municipality of Eichenberglocated centrally between Suhl and Themar, is one of the smaller member communities of the "Feldstein" administrative community.

Eichenberg, a typical clustered village at the foot of the Schneeberg, at 692m the highest elevation of the so-called "Little Thuringian Forest" offers visitors a charming hilly cultural landscape characterized by meadows, mixed forests and orchards, which is dominated by agriculture and forestry. From the heights surrounding the village, the Höhn and Hofberg in the west, the Rote Hügel in the north-east, but especially from the Schneeberg in the north, wonderful views open up over the valley with meadows and streams stretching south to the neighboring village of Lengfeld and beyond to the south-western foothills of the Thuringian Forest as far as the Gleichberge near Römhild, the Rhön mountains or across to the Thuringian Forest.

Of geological interest is the striking separation of the area by a fault fissure, the so-called "Marisfelder Grabenbruch", into a shell limestone area to the southwest and a sandstone area to the northeast of the main road. Interesting excursion destinations can be reached via a well-signposted network of hiking trails with shelters and seating facilities, which are linked to the Rennsteig-Dolmar Trail follows. Along the way, nature-loving hikers will encounter a rich flora with some protected groups of trees and the "thickest" silver fir in Thuringia worth seeing soil and geological monuments such as the Croatian crosswhich commemorates the Thirty Years' War, or the Feldstein, a columnar basalt rock near the neighboring community of Lengfeld.

The municipality has a large number of half-timbered buildings worth seeingwhich were built as two-sided or one-house farmsteads and most of which have been preserved in their historical form. One Small park with fountain in the center of the village invites you to linger. The church, which dominates the townscape, stands next to it on a hill. Built in the Middle Ages as a fortified church, it is said to be the second oldest in the area after that of Leutersdorf. As early as 1349, the chapel in Eichenberg received permission from Bishop Albrecht of Würzburg to erect a baptismal font.

Cultural life and socializing, especially supported by the very active fire department association, are not neglected in the village community. Every year on the last Sunday in April, a star hike is organized to the now traditional Snow Mountain Festival the tourist season opens in the Little Thuringian Forest. Other village festivals, such as the Bakehouse festival in August, the traditional funfair at the end of October and, last but not least, a pre-Christmas Church tower blowing are very popular with residents and visitors from near and far every year.
