Leutra is a district of the university town of Jena in Thuringia and is located south of the federal highway 4. The name Leutra is derived from the stream of the same name, which flows through the valley and is home to brown trout.

Worth seeing in the village is the Romanesque-early Gothic fortified church St. Nicholas from the middle of the 13th century. Even after several reconstructions, special highlights can be discovered at the oldest still preserved church in Thuringia. These include the as Rose from Leutra known window, which is unique in this form in the German-speaking world.

For nature lovers Leutra is an ideal starting point for hikes in the Leutra Valley Nature Reserve and to the 397 meter high Cospoth. From the mountain, the hiker overlooks the picturesquely situated valley and village from afar. It is hard to imagine that until 2014 the A4 highway passed directly by Leutra! Today it is impressive to see how domestic Orchids and other plants have reclaimed the area of the old highway route. More than 20 species of native orchids bloom in the region, especially in May and June, showing the floral wealth, which in Leutra is associated with a traditional Orchid Festival is duly celebrated.
