Kutzleben and Lützensömmern were already settled in the Stone Age and Bronze Age. The first documentary mentions date back to the 8th century. The descendants of the noble family of the same name, the Lords "von Kutzleben", are still alive today. In the communities of Kutzleben and Lützensömmern, large manors were already mentioned in the chronicles of the 14th and 15th centuries. 

In 1951, Kutzleben and Lützensömmern were merged into one municipality. Even today, agriculture still plays a dominant role in both villages. Larger and smaller private farms have concentrated mainly on the cultivation of asparagus, strawberries, hops and grain. Every spring, the asparagus and strawberry farm attracts many gourmets from all regions of our country.

The large volume of gravel in the district of Lützensömmern and the associated high volume of vehicles and transportation were the reason for the construction of the bypass to relieve the district of Kutzleben in 1992/93.

Today, both districts are modern residential villages with a good infrastructure and a kindergarten. The manor in Lützensömmern has developed into an international youth meeting place since the 1990s.

The 1230th anniversary of the municipality was celebrated in summer 2016. A large parade reflected the history of the two villages.
