Wachstedt belongs to the administrative community of Westerwald-Obereichsfeld. Wachstedt was first mentioned in 1134 in a deed of gift from Ditmar von Kirchberg. Sights include the Gleichenstein Castle on the 459m high castle hill between Martinfeld and Wachstedt, the Klüschen Hagis site with a 16th century pilgrimage chapel and the parish church of St. Michael.
