Großgölitz

Großgölitz was incorporated in 1993. The district, which belongs to the town of Bad Blankenburg, is located at the foot of the Kesselwände and originated in the 11th and 12th centuries, the first written mentions as "Golys" and "Wenyngin Geels" exist only about 200 years later. The place name goes back to the Slavic "goly" (bare) or "gola" (heath) and refers to the strikingly bare and steep mountain terrain of the limestone cliffs in the northern part of both fields, which, together with the pleasant climate and wonderful hiking trails, today virtually invite you to stay. The medieval wine-growing area of Gölitz became lavender plantations in the 18th century. The revival of this tradition in the 1990s with a lavender festival and lavender queen earned Bad Blankenburg the name "Lavendeleck in the Thuringian Herb Garden". A park was created around the church in Großgölitz, with sculptures made from the wood carvings of Florian Lindner (Holz-Flori) and chainsaw artists from all over the world present at the distillery festivals. A visit to these pieces of art is possible throughout the year.

In Großgölitz, the Lindner distillery offers, among other things, lavender liqueur for tasting.
