The state-approved resort town of Cursdorf is located 710 - 760m above sea level in the Thuringian Slate Mountains on a saddle between the Schwarza Valley and the Lichten Valley and is overlooked by forested heights up to 100m. Cursdorf is the highest situated village connected to the famous Thuringian mountain railroad.

With its extensive forest areas, Cursdorf is today an attraction for hikers and cyclists. The altitude also offers optimal conditions for winter sports.

 The Schwarzatal Panorama Trail and the Olitätenrundwanderweg run through Cursdorf and other trails such as the Planetenwanderweg are waiting to be explored.
