Sondershausen - In the heart music
Music and mining are living traditions in Sondershausen - the cultural town in the southern Harz-Kyffhäuser region! Sondershausen, located south of the Harz Mountains, is an attractive destination for culture and nature lovers. A lovingly renovated town center, a residential palace in the middle of the town, music events and festivals are just a selection of what awaits guests. The biggest highlight is the Thuringian Castle Festival Sondershausen, which has established itself as the most popular open-air festival in the border triangle of Thuringia, Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The castle festival is music theater with thrilling productions in front of a magical backdrop in the historic ambience of the former residence of the Schwarzburg-Sondershausen princes. A castle that harmoniously combines all architectural styles from Renaissance to historicism and boasts an extensive castle museum and the Golden Coach.
The "Possen" with the highest half-timbered tower in Europe and the Straußberg with its monkey forest and summer toboggan run offer nature and adventure. In the "Glückauf" adventure mine, 700 m below the surface, there are also adventurous rides through the salt rock and a boat trip on the Solesee lake, while the world's deepest concert hall is also a great place for music!
