The municipality of Gamstädt, including the district of Kleinrettbach, has around 800 inhabitants and is conveniently located on the B7 federal highway halfway between Gotha in the west and Erfurt in the east. Due to the fertile soil, agriculture has shaped the development of Gamstädt and Kleinrettbach. Gamstädt has an attractive residential area with 48 residential units in 9 apartment buildings. In Kleinrettbach, a residential area was developed on the southern edge of the village in the direction of Neudietendorf. New homes are constantly being built here according to the individual ideas of the developers.

Gamstädt is now part of the rural community of Nesse-Apfelstädt.
