Fröttstädt is a district of the rural municipality of Hörsel in the northwest of the Thuringian district of Gotha.
The village is located to the west of Gotha, directly on the Frankfurt/Main - Erfurt railroad line. From Fröttstädt, you can reach the town of Waltershausen and the town of Friedrichroda by regional train.
Fröttstädt can be reached by road via Waltershausen, Hörselgau, Laucha and Teutleben. The highway exit Waltershausen is approx. 1.5 km away and can be reached directly via a connecting road. The distance to the district town of Gotha is approx. 15 km. The state capital Erfurt is approx. 40 km away.
The village borders on the districts of Aspach, Teutleben, Laucha and Hörselgau. The "Hörsel" flows along the village. To the east of Fröttstädt is the "Kleines Berlach" forest area with the "Drei Teiche" (Three Ponds).
From 1994 to 2011, Fröttstädt was a member municipality of the "Hörsel" administrative community, which also included the towns of Hörselgau, Laucha, Mechterstädt, Ebenheim, Weingarten, Neufrankenroda, Metebach, Teutleben, Aspach and Trügleben.
Fröttstädt has been part of the municipality of Hörsel since 01.12.2011.
