In the Holzdorf district of Weimar, the estate of the Diakonie Weimar-Bad Lobenstein is a place of significant cultural history. In 1917, the Mannheim industrialist Dr. Otto Krebs purchased the manor, which is close to the city of Weimar, and had it converted into a prestigious residence. Even today, inlays, parquet flooring, leather wallpaper, and precious coffered and stucco ceilings bear witness to the magnificent interior. He rounded off the ensemble with a French-style park. In this way, the art collector created a suitable setting on the outskirts of Weimar for a private collection of very special quality. Among the hundred or so paintings were works by Cézanne, Renoir, van Gogh, Gauguin, Picasso, Degas, Monet and Matisse.
