Milbitz
Milbitz
Milbitz, a district of the town of Königsee, is located north of Rottenbach as a street village along the Rottenbach river. One third of the Milbitzer Flur is forested. The agricultural land is used as meadows and pasture due to the extreme slope, with the exception of a few arable areas. Milbitz was first mentioned in 1196 with the Paulinzella monastery, to which the village belonged until its dissolution in 1534. There are a number of hiking trails through the woods to the surrounding villages of Rottenbach and Horba, where you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the Thuringian Forest. The Thuringia Trail takes you west to Paulinzella with its Romanesque monastery ruins from the 12th century, the museum on the history of the monastery, forestry and hunting and the exhibition "From stone axe to chainsaw", and east via Solsdorf and Thälendorf to Greifenstein Castle and Bad Blankenburg.
