Kolkwitz
Kolkwitz
Located to the right of the Saale, east of Catharinau (185 m above sea level, 168 inhabitants), the village was first mentioned in a document in 1074 as Culecwitzi.
The medieval village settlement already leaned against the raised banks of the Schabedach river, which enters the Saale floodplain here. The buildings, mostly small farmsteads, are grouped around two medieval fortified settlement centers - the church in the east and the Edelhof in the west. This former aristocratic residence, a unique, beautiful half-timbered building, now a renowned country hotel, is particularly characteristic of the townscape.
The wooded surroundings are ideal for hiking and relaxing.
