Belrieth is a municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the Dolmar-Salzbrücke administrative community, which is based in Schwarza. Belrieth is located on the Werra, which divides the village into two districts: Hübedorf on the left and Selldorf on the right bank of the river. The two districts are connected by a stone bridge dating back to the 16th century. Belrieth was first mentioned in documents between 802 and 817 and is one of the oldest communities in the district. The village developed from a manor house, which was later expanded into a castle. The castle was destroyed in the 14th century and the inhabitants settled on the right bank of the Werra. The Fortified church on the Kirchberg is a testimony to the medieval history of the village. Belrieth has around 330 inhabitants and covers an area of 9.93 km². The village is surrounded by a charming landscape and is located between the towns of Meiningen and Hildburghausen on the B 89.
