Etzdorf is a district of the municipality of Heideland in the Saale-Holzland district and is located between Eisenberg and Crossen an der Elster.

The village is hidden between tall old trees on a plateau sloping down into the village with a view over the Elster valley to Gera. In addition to the distinctive three- and four-sided farmsteads of the rural economy, the church built in the 18th century in the style of the Thuringian peasant baroque, the former knight's seat and the old school are worth seeing witnesses of the village history. Friedrich Gottlieb Schumann, the grandfather of the great composer Robert Schumann, was born in 1746 in today's estate number 19.

Etzdorf is a good starting point for trips to Eisenberg and Crossen on the Elster. The wooded Eisenberger Mill Valley is easily accessible by bicycle.
