Reinstädt
Reinstädt
The municipality of Reinstädt with its districts Geunitz and Zweifelbach is located 25 km southwest of the city of Jena in a graceful side valley of the Saale valley, which is called "Reinstädter Grund" after its main village Reinstädt. The village character is characterized by typical half-timbered houses and farm gardens.
St. Michael's Church in the eastern part of the parish was completed in 1473. Through the centuries there were various additions and reconstructions. From 1981-1992 the church was restored in late Gothic style with its unique stencil painting on the ceiling.
St. Michael's Church was part of a fortification in the Middle Ages. The battlements with embrasures and the oriel in the attic of the church bear witness to this. The parsonage, the forester's lodge, a defensive wall and the bower, a type of residential tower found specifically in Thuringia, also belong to the fortification.
