Simmelshausen is located on the Främkische plateau in the flat bottom of the upper Milz, south-east of the "Großer Gleichberg".

The typical Franconian street village is located on the Franconian plateau. The village layout from the 9th and 10th centuries has been preserved to this day and has led to the village center being placed under a preservation order. The church, built on an elevated site, with its walls and a former moat, which also protected the rectory, was also designed as a fortified site.
