Between Erfurt and Gotha in the middle of the Thuringian Burgenland "Drei Gleichen" lies the municipality of Mühlberg. The first documented mention of the village is dated 01.05.704. The landmark of the village is the Mühlburg. An eventful history connects the castle and the village as well as the many different ownerships, which determined the development of the village in the course of the centuries. Mühlberg is a typical village and was granted market rights as early as 1242. The market place is still used today as it was in the past. It is surrounded by half-timbered houses, an old fountain and the town hall. The town hall, built in 1896, was renovated in 1993. Mühlberg is one of the oldest settlements in the Free State. A special feature are also its numerous mills, which are scattered throughout the town. The millrace runs picturesquely through the medieval-looking village.
