Scheibe-Alsbach
Scheibe-Alsbach
Scheibe-Alsbach, today a district of Neuhaus am Rennweg, is the gateway to the wild and romantic Schwarza Valley. At an altitude of 717 m, the Schwarza rises in one of the deepest crevice springs in Europe. Germanic settlers christened the water, which appears dark due to the slate rubble and the shading of the rocky valley, "Suarzaha". The village extends southward for 1.5 km to the Rennsteig trail to Limbach. Extensive spruce forests surround the village in a gentle, almost disk-shaped valley basin through which the Schwarza flows. This appearance has certainly contributed to the place name. The Schwarza reservoir near the village, which is surrounded by dense forest and was awarded the title of the cleanest drinking water reservoir in the Federal Republic in 1997, radiates peace and invites you to linger.
