The small clustered village lies between the Thuringian Forest and the Hassberge mountains in the Franconian hill country. Schweickershausen developed from a settlement around a manor. The castle, church, forester's lodge and former outbuildings still characterize the townscape today.

The historic buildings with Franconian half-timbering have been renovated many times and adapted to the village character. Streets have been redesigned and give the village its character with plenty of greenery.

The village, which now has 170 inhabitants, was first mentioned as Schwickershausen in 1317. The present name Schweickershausen developed through a phonetic change to Schwickershausen by the Count of Schaumburg.

The village is largely surrounded by forest, which is managed by the local forest cooperative. There is a 10-hectare orchard on the edge of the village, where old fruit varieties are also preserved in this biotope.

The young people often take part in village life and have turned their club into a little gem.

Our castle inn with its overnight accommodation is a good place to eat. In addition to good local cuisine (roasts with real Thuringian dumplings), you can enjoy the beer garden and the pleasant peace and quiet. The available guest rooms are equipped for vacationers as well as for hikers and bikers. 

The old custom of brewing beer has been preserved to this day and many people would not want to do without the dark barley juice from the community's own brewery.
