In the southeast of the Wartburg Hainich World Heritage Region lies the municipality of Hörselberg-Hainich with its 17 districts. These are Behringen, Beuernfeld, Bolleroda, Burla, Craula, Ettenhausen/Nesse, Großenlupnitz, Hastrungsfeld, Hütscheroda, Kälberfeld, Melborn, Reichenbach, Sättelstädt, Sondra, Tüngeda, Wenigenlupnitz and Wolfsbehringen.
Anyone who sets up camp here has found the perfect starting point for excursions. Located directly between the Hainich World Natural Heritage Site and the Wartburg World Cultural Heritage Site, the small towns are an Eldorado for hikers. Hiking trails through the Hainich National Park with its natural old beech forests are just as enticing as the routes through the legendary Hörsel Mountains. There lies the Venus Cave, which is said to have inspired Richard Wagner to write his Tannhäuser. In the wild cat village of Hütscheroda, wild cats and lynx, which are virtually invisible to humans in the wild, can be observed up close.
