Sundhausen is a municipality in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia.

The first documented mention of Sundhausen can be found in a deed of donation of land in Sundhausen from 817.

In 1991, Sundhausen joined the Bad Tennstedt administrative community.

The large grassy village green is the jewel and center of the community. Lime and chestnut trees alternate around the village green. In the middle of the village green is a so-called "Thingplatz", a large, slightly elevated area with a lime tree that is over 300 years old. People's and court assemblies were once held here in accordance with ancient Germanic law.

The "Rautenkranz" restaurant and hall is located directly on the village green. Numerous festivals and community events take place here and on the village green throughout the year.

In addition to the carnival weekend, the Whitsun festival with the raising of the maypole, the May festival, the Sundhäuser funfair events, the traditional Easter bonfire and the Christmas market, there is the regular pensioners' afternoon and the very active men's choir "Harmonie 1882".

Sundhausen has a beautiful kindergarten, which many children from Sudhausen and the surrounding communities attend.

Sundhausen is a member of the "Stiftung Landleben" and the "Dorfregion Seltenrain".
