In the middle of the green heart of Germany, where the Werra has carved its way through the limestone mountains over thousands of years of painstaking work, lies the town of Amt Creuzburg. The town of Amt Creuzburg has been known as a settlement village for more than 1200 years and has been a town charter since 1213. This makes it one of the oldest towns in Thuringia - 10 km from Eisenach. The history of the small town, which until a few years ago was mostly located in the buffer zone of major powers, has been eventful. It is probably due to this circumstance that its development, which began so promisingly in the Middle Ages, was hindered time and again - ultimately also by the destruction at the end of the Second World War. Nevertheless, numerous historical buildings, such as Creuzburg Castle, Gottesackerkirche church, St. Nicolai town church, town wall, town hall and Werrabrücke bridge with Liborius Chapel, as well as the archaeological monuments, bear witness to the fact that Creuzburg is a historical town. Thanks to its romantic location on the Werra, directly between the Hainich National Park and Wartburg Castle, visitors can enjoy a wide range of tourist attractions.
