Klemmberg Park

The Klemmberg with the Bismarck Tower has been a prominent point in the silhouette of the city of Weißenfels for 100 years. The idea to erect the tower came from some citizens of the city who wanted to honor the 1st Chancellor of the Reich, Otto Prince von Bismarck (1815-1898). The design was made by the architect Otto Meienberg. The monument was symbolically opened on August 25, 1907. At the foot of the tower, the park on Klemmberg extends over an area of about 7 hectares. Based on an initiative for the creation of "city and citizen parks" from the year 1897, the mayor of Weißenfels at that time, Johannes Wadehn, endeavored to create such a park. Trees and plantings were financed by means of municipal money and donations. In recent years, a citizens' initiative has taken over the area in order to preserve this beautiful piece of nature for future generations.
