State Museum of Prehistory Halle

The State Museum of Prehistory Halle (Saale) is one of the most important archaeological museums in Europe. The magnificent collections are presented in Germany's oldest functional building for prehistoric archaeology. The exhibition stages the development of human history in magnificent images and conveys the most up-to-date research. Countless objects of international significance are on display. Each piece takes its special place in the cultural history of man and makes a visit to the museum a vivid journey into the past. Thematic exhibition sections lead through 400,000 years of human history. In the coming years, the permanent exhibition will be gradually expanded. The chronological endpoint will be the Middle Ages and the early modern period.

One of the most famous exhibits is the Nebra Sky Disk. It shows the oldest concrete representation of the sky. The century-old find is exhibited with the accompanying swords, axes and arm spirals. Since 2013, the Nebra Sky Disk has been part of UNESCO's "Memory of the World".
