Historic former hotel "Stadt Wien"
Historic former hotel "Stadt Wien"
The predecessor building was erected by the municipality of Mehlis as a municipal inn in 1589 as a three-storey half-timbered building with an attached dance hall. The former inn "Zum goldenen Hirsch" was also known as the Oberwirtshaus from around 1720. At the time, it was the most important inn, a place of rest and accommodation for travelers and a meeting place for the local council. After it was sold in 1865, the building was given the name "Stadt Wien". It burned down completely in 1908 and was rebuilt in its present form in 1909 by the Karl-zeitz Meiningen brewery. The private operators were followed by the HO restaurants in the GDR. After extensive reconstruction and conversion work, the restaurant "Vino" and apartments are now located in the traditional building. As a result, this house on the Mehlis market has been serving as accommodation and an inn for more than 400 years.
