Gößnitz museum of local history

The exhibition was opened in the Heimatstube Gößnitz on May 20, 2000. After 100 years of collecting by many well-known citizens of our town, the collection of the Gößnitz local history museum found a worthy and permanent exhibition venue in the Heimatstube, Kauritzer Straße 8. The permanent exhibition reflects the history of the development of our town. This is documented by documents and material witnesses from the various eras up to the 20th century. On the first floor there is a small event and reading room and a room in which the Schneider hand printing works and contemporary witnesses of the saddlery and shoemaking trades can be seen. On the second floor, the development of the Gößnitz area is presented, starting with prehistory and early history and a copy of the document that first mentions our town. Documents bear witness to the affiliation to Altenburg, as do the traditional costumes on display. Interesting old maps, the old seal of the town and the town privilege round off the first exhibition room. In the second room, only exhibits from the former rifle and military association are on display. The next two rooms vividly illustrate the development of Gößnitz into an industrial town. The top floor has been converted into a display depot. Two museum rooms are intended for special exhibitions, which will take place twice a year.

Gößnitz outdoor pool and museum of local history
- How does that fit together?

The official gazette of the city of Gößnitz No. 1 from 11.02.2023 reported on the ceremonial handover of the Gößnitz outdoor pool following extensive renovation work last year. From the start of the project to completion, not everything went according to plan. There were a few hurdles to overcome. Many photos were taken of the various construction phases. This photographic material was used to create a kind of "Construction diary"which can be seen as part of a special exhibition in the Gößnitz Heimatstube. From the ground-breaking ceremony to completion and handover on 01.12.2022, visitors can see everything that had to be renovated and repaired in the past year, when the outdoor pool was closed. The exhibition documents the necessity of the construction work with 26 display boards. A dismantled drain valve clearly demonstrates its urgency and completes this special exhibition. Who wants to know where all those euros were spent?
The special exhibition in the Heimatstube provides information about this by means of the construction diary.
