Salzmann House Sömmerda

The Salzmann House, which is part of the Sömmerda museum landscape, was completely renovated between 2006 and 2008. It is the birthplace of the educator, theologian and philanthropist Christian Gotthilf Salzmann (1744-1811), who was known far beyond the region and who also spent his childhood days here. The house is one of the oldest residential buildings in Sömmerda. It was built at the end of the 16th century and served for a long time as a diaconate or municipal girls' school. While the upper floor is now occupied by apartments, part of the lower rooms is available for museum use.

Among other things, you can see publications by Salzmann, a baptismal register from the 19th century (on loan from the regional Protestant parish) and a child's shoe. This was found during the renovation in 2006. Although there is no evidence of it, Salzmann could well have worn this shoe, because its design corresponds to that time.

Since 2021, the office of the Thuringian Basin Tourism Association e.V. can also be found here on the first floor.
