Castle apiary Tonndorf
Castle apiary Tonndorf
The Tonndorf Castle apiary is surrounded by beautiful countryside in the Weimarer Land region, in the middle of orchards. The Bioland professional apiary is located in the middle of the 15-hectare grounds of Tonndorf Castle and consists of over a hundred colonies of Buckfast bees. These are particularly gentle, powerful, swarm-bearing, vital and disease-resistant.
Since 2009, the castle apiary has been a recognized beekeeping company of the professional beekeepers' association. In 2010, the first beekeeper apprentice in Thuringia since reunification was trained at the castle apiary.
The creation of a bee show garden in front of the castle gate in the same year complements the beekeeping with a wonderful opportunity to bring visitors to Tonndorf Castle even closer to beekeeping - and the bees enjoy the splendor of the flowers in summer. The bee show garden invites visitors to observe and marvel. The production facilities on the castle grounds also offer interesting insights, as some of the honey varieties are refined on site into honey wines, honey liqueurs, honey mustard, honey chocolates and honey stollen. You can experience the life and work of bees up close on guided tours of the apiary. School classes, kindergartens, beekeeping associations and other groups are very welcome by prior arrangement!
