It was the unsuccessful attempt at the Gänsemännchenbrunnen fountain in Schillerstraße. The shell limestone basin designed by architect Ferdinand Streichhan was too small and was quickly moved to the Reading Museum. An animal lover - the pharmacist Theodor Lüdde - arranged for a dog trough to be integrated in 1864. Above it rises a rectangular sandstone column with a gargoyle in the shape of a stylized lion's head. In the background is a building whose Ionic columns resemble the Temple of Nike on the Acropolis. It is the headquarters of the reading society founded by Maria Pavlovna.
