Winery at Donndorf station
Winery at Donndorf station
The wine press in the historic Donndorf train station produces juice specialties from local fruit and also presses juice from fruit delivered from its own garden. Maik Rahaus and his team primarily use old apple varieties from the region, thereby contributing to the preservation of the orchards around the Hohe Schrecke and thus to species protection. This results in tasty juice creations such as apple-pumpkin or apple-raspberry juice.
The juice is available in the online store. During the main fruit harvest season in September/October, the press house is open daily, and for groups by appointment. During a guided tour, guests learn more about how the juice is made, the fruit press is shown in action and afterwards, of course, visitors can taste the fresh juice. For groups of 10 people or more, the winery offers the popular blind tasting.
The modern pressing plant produces up to 500 liters of juice per hour. Visitors can experience the historic railroad station with all their senses during juice tastings - even in the magic of winter with a warming mulled fruit wine or fruit punch. The extensively renovated former railroad station in Donndorf, a clinker brick building dating back to 1889, houses the press house on the first floor as well as vacation apartments on the upper floor.
