The small church stands right next to the bridge that spans the two banks of the Saale in the floodplain. The simple branch church with a nave, small tower and square choir dates back to the early Gothic period. In 1689, two timber-framed storeys were added to the tower. The belfry was set back.
The windows and choir of the church date from the middle of the 17th century. The originally walled round arches and the early Gothic pointed arch windows no longer exist today. The triumphal arch and choir vault were also removed in the course of extensive building work in 1689. The height of the choir and nave were equalized.

In 1838, the church had become very dilapidated and extensive repairs were required. The nave was completely rebuilt. Inside, the small church has a two-storey gallery and a ceiling decorated with stucco. In 1927, the church was given a pulpit with a basket and sounding board. A mural depicting Jesus as the savior of the village from the Saale flood was also added.

The octagonal baptismal font from 1576 is also noteworthy, while the neoclassical baptismal font dates from 1838. The church organ was installed by Justinus Ehrenfried Gerhard in 1758.
