Church "St. Ulrich" Weberstedt

The Lutheran village church of St. Ulrich is located in Weberstedt, a district of the rural municipality of Unstrut-Hainich.
The church - visibly situated on a hill - rises above the village. It is a beautiful landmark of the village, which, in the middle of the old churchyard and surrounded by a wall at the eastern entrance to the village, draws the visitor's eye. The church was built in the 15th century. As a patron saint the Christians chose St.
Udalrici (Ulrich of Augsburg). He also became the patron saint of the "weavers". This is certainly the explanation for his choice as the patron saint of the church of Weberstedt. The church is an important historical monument with its carvings on the galleries, valuable barrel paintings and its unaltered architecture. In the church there is a carved altar shrine, which depicts the Entombment of Christ. During various reconstructions the organ was placed in the gallery (east side) in the choir. It was built in 1911 by the company Furtwängler and Hammer from Hemmingen in Lower Saxony and is of exceptional value. The organ is the largest and the only original preserved romantic work of this company in Thuringia.
