Café Pille
Café Pille
Guests can enjoy the historical flair of the 1920s at the oldest café in Thuringia, Café Pille in Sondershausen. The origins of the coffee house are linked to the history of the royal seat. Prince Günther Friedrich Carl von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen brought the confectioner Friedrich Krause to his town, appointed him court confectioner and had him open a café in 1836. At that time it was still called Café Schwarzburg like the royal house, but since 1929 it has been called Café Pille, named after the then owner Alfred Pille, who redesigned the coffee house in the Art Deco style. All of the furniture from 1929 has been preserved and now creates a charming ambience. The traditional café enjoys cult status in Sondershausen and offers delicious cakes and tarts made according to old recipes, aromatic coffee, homemade ice cream, also available for sale on the street in summer, and handmade chocolate specialties in winter.
