Schmalkalden green belt - a stone's throw away
The so-called "Katzensprung" is a small park with seating and a statue of a cat in front of the jump in the middle. Schmalkalden's green belt stretches around the historic city center from the Katzensprung to the Schlossgarten. In the Middle Ages, the inhabitants laid out fields and gardens between the city walls, forming a green ring around the city. Today, parts of this ring have been redeveloped and transformed into parks and gardens, and the remains of the former city wall have been staged.
