Buchfart

The name Buchfart means that the settlement was built in a beech forest near a ford. This is where the Middle Ilm Valley shows its most beautiful side. The Ilm meanders leisurely through this narrow valley with its not very high, but steep, wooded slopes. And in the middle of it all lies Buchfart.

The inhabitants of the community seem to want to keep up with the beauty of nature all around. Many buildings are unique testimonies of Thuringian rural building culture, lovingly renovated and carefully modernized.

One of the town's sights is the covered wooden bridge over the Ilm, built between 1816 and 1818. (The bridge was made of stone until 1613.) The listed bridge has a length of 43 meters, a width of three meters and a clearance height of 3.05 meters. The bridge is still passable. It was designed by Weimar architect Carl Friedrich Christian Steiner. Next to the bridge is a listed watermill. The ensemble is one of the most popular photo motifs.
