Saalfeld is a district of Mühlhausen and is located north of Mühlhausen, on the edge of the Thuringian Basin. Saalfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1273 and has been a district of Mühlhausen since 1994.
Worth seeing is the church of St. Nicholas. The village has a special and unique structure, namely that of a round village. In the center there are the village green and the church. Around Saalfeld are numerous forest areas, such as the Mühlhäuser Forest and the Volkenroda Forest.
The fire department association and the shooting club and the local history society are responsible for the local club life.
