The town of Ebeleben was one of the Thuringian external locations for the Federal Garden Show in Erfurt in 2021. The small town is home to a gem of garden architecture. The Princely House of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen had the former medieval castle of the Lords of Ebeleben converted into a baroque palace. The castle was destroyed at the end of the Second World War, but the castle park has been largely preserved in its original Baroque state. The conversion of the castle into a palace also marked the beginning of the construction of a Baroque park in the French style, which flourished at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. Over the course of several generations, the park was continually developed. The princely family used the palace until 1835, later it was used as an administrative seat and residence. During this time, the park was hardly appreciated or cared for, but as a result it remained almost unchanged. In the 1990s, the castle park was "rediscovered" and renovated with its fascinating water features, impressive stone figures and the palm house. Perhaps one or two visitors will also make a detour to the donkey museum, where Pastor Thonhofer displays his collection of the gray four-legged friends (visit by arrangement). Ebeleben also offers variety for hikers and cyclists, for example the supra-regional Unstrut-Werra cycle path runs along here.
