Grains

The Körner municipality with its districts Osterkörner and Volkenroda is located between the industrialized centers Mulhouse and Schlotheimin an area of the Unstrut-Hainich district that is more strongly characterized by agriculture. The immediate proximity to the natural areas Volkenroda Forest, Mühlhäuser Forest and Mühlhäuser Hardt and to the Hainich and to the Hainleite and convenient transport connections invite you to take a trip to the region.

Numerous excavation finds prove that people settled in the area over 7,000 years ago. Körner was one of the first places in Thuringia to be mentioned in numerous documents. It is not possible to determine exactly where the village got its name from. However, there is no doubt that "this area is a blessed land of grain", as Brückner described in his "Description of the Church and School State in the Duchy of Gotha" in 1756.

Today Körner is a community with many small craft businesses. Worth seeing is the Volkenroda Monastery in the district of Volkenroda. Built on the remains of a former imperial castle by the Cistercian order and consecrated in the 12th century, the monastery is considered a gem in the heart of Germany since its revival in 1990. But it's not just the old that can be admired here: thanks to the Christ Pavilion a fascinating ensemble of old and new has been created. The Christ Pavilion, one of the most visited pavilions at the "Expo 2000" world exhibition in Hanover, blends in perfectly with the monastery complex.
