The Herrmannsacker district of the municipality of Harztor has its roots in the Middle Ages. The village was probably named after Landgrave Herrmann of Thuringia, who had the Ebersburg castle built here. In the forests of the southern Harz, the Thuringian landgrave built the Ebersburg, the northernmost outpost of Thuringia, at the end of the 12th century. Today, the almost 20-metre-high, massive keep, a rare recessed chamber gate and parts of the walls can be seen from the once Romanesque castle complex. The circular trail through the forest around Ebersburg Castle is not the only place to hike. The Harz circular cycle path also leads past Herrmannsacker. The hosts of the agricultural village offer a rural vacation close to nature.
