Roßleben-Wiehe OT Donndorf

Donndorf belongs to the town and rural municipality of Roßleben-Wiehe.

Donndorf has been documented since the beginning of the ninth century, and a medieval castle is said to have stood on the site of the village's monastery. The Cistercian nunnery in Donndorf was first mentioned in documents around 1250. The convent was stormed during the Peasants' War in 1525 and converted into a school during the Reformation. In the 1990s, the dilapidated monastery buildings were extensively renovated. Today, the Ländliche Heimvolkshochschule offers various courses, seminars and overnight accommodation - from yoga and therapeutic fasting to painting and dance.

There are two Protestant churches in Donndorf named after St. Peter and St. Paul: the old church of St. Peter and St. Paul has been a parish church since 1253, while the new church of St. Peter and St. Paul was built in the middle of the 19th century.
In the former railroad station in Donndorf, local fruit is processed into tasty juices in the wine press house. During guided tours and tastings, visitors can learn more about what makes a good natural juice.

Those who like to be active in nature can set off from Donndorf, for example into the unspoilt old forest of the Hohe Schrecke. The Unstruttal tourist information office, located in Wiehe at the town park, is open to all questions and requests from guests.
