An der Schmücke OT Oldisleben
Oldisleben is a district of the rural community of An der Schmücke. Thanks to its favorable location on the Unstrut river, a market town was established here over 900 years ago. The 190 km long route of the Unstrut cycle path runs along the river. Numerous hiking trails also lead through the densely wooded surroundings of the Hainleite, for example to the two Saxon castles in the neighboring village of the same name, which belongs to Oldisleben. The remarkable remains of the Saxon castles from the 11th century offer an impressive view of the Thuringian Gate, where a stone arch bridge now crosses the Unstrut. The Saxon castles were a defensive wall at this busy pass of the "Porta Thuringica", which was already important in the Middle Ages. Another impressive testimony to history is the industrial monument of the sugar factory with its impressive architecture - built in 1872, it was powered by steam engines until its closure in 1990. Oldisleben is also a worthwhile excursion destination for all gourmets, as this is where the Goethe Chocolaterie manufactory is located - guests can immerse themselves in the delicious world of chocolate and coffee in the experience world, the factory shop and the café. In summer, the Oldisleben open-air swimming pool beckons with a dip in the cool water.
