St. Gangloff

St. Gangloff is a community in the Saale-Holzland district. Conveniently located at the Hermsdorfer Kreuz interchange, the village lies between a large forest area and agricultural land. First mentioned in a document in the 13th century and built on seven hills, it is jokingly called "Thuringian Rome". A small pilgrimage chapel to St. Gangloff, a Burgundian knight, gave the village its name.

Worth seeing are some old Half-timbered houses in the old village center at the Fischbach, one of them with an original clay oven, as well as the Village church St. Gangloff. The church was built in the middle of the 18th century and is a wooden building in Zopf style with a Poppe organ from Stadtroda. On the outskirts of the village, on the site of a former cutting mill, there is a Horse boarding.

The surroundings of St. Gangloff are well suited for cycling and hiking, for example in the Zeitzgrund.
