Albert Schweitzer Monument Weimar
Albert Schweitzer Monument Weimar
The world's first memorial to the German humanist Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was erected during the GDR era. Weimar was chosen by the Albert Schweitzer Committee as the location for the Albert Schweitzer Memorial and Meeting Place on the same site. The spirit of humanity shaped Albert Schweitzer's personality and life. The memorial was inaugurated in 1968 opposite the north wing of the city palace and shows the "jungle doctor" in a doctor's coat with a pith helmet and an African mother and her two children.
