Alperstedt is a municipality in the district of Sömmerda in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community of Gramme-Vippach.

Alperstedt is located in the south-eastern part of the Thuringian Basin, south of the Alperstedter Ried nature reserve. It is the largest calcareous fen in the Thuringian Basin. It has been a nature reserve since 1938/1967.

Review

First written mention between 802 and 817 in a deed of donation. In 1370, Count Gleichen sold the village to the city of Erfurt. In 1736, a major fire destroyed a large part of Alperstedt. At the time, the village belonged to Johanna Christiana von Heßler, who lost her "Fürstenhof" as a result of the fire. In 1794, the tower was built for the already older church.

The village lived from agriculture. It also provided escorts for the dangerous path through the moor north of the village, which was part of a busy north-south route through Alperstedt. The resulting rest stops for people and animals allowed two inns to exist in the village, one of which was the Schwarze Adler, built in 1740 under Mrs. von Heßler. In 1816, work began on draining the Alperstedter Ried in order to extract peat. The village was electrified in 1924.

After reunification (GDR), numerous new residential buildings were built on the outskirts of the village. The economy was reprivatized, especially the gardening operations were expanded and brought up to modern technical standards. However, in accordance with the provisions of the 1990 unification treaty between the GDR and FRG, the estate was not returned.

In October 2009, a new community center was handed over to the municipality, which was built in one year with an investment of 1.6 million euros.
