Even during his lifetime, Franz Liszt was celebrated like a pop star. While he was working in Weimar, the small residential town became an important center of German musical life thanks to his activities. When he settled here in 1848, he had many eventful years behind him as a traveling virtuoso. He lived in the three-storey building in today's Jenaer Straße with his partner Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein. Musical matinees and soirées were held there and Liszt taught renowned students. Today, the house is used by the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
