Althausen

Althausen, located 3 km east of Münnerstadt on the Lauer River, is first documented in a Fulda deed of donation from 803, where it is referred to as Atihuson; however, the actual age of this settlement goes back much further into the past and can be archaeologically proven to date back to the Hallstatt period, i.e. the eighth century BC. In the Middle Ages, it apparently had a small castle seat associated with the Burdian knights. Even as free subjects, the once servant country dwellers were burdened with many burdens and duties, which repeatedly threatened their existence in times of war. During the Thirty Years' War, the people of Althausen had to flee from the Swedes to Münnerstadt in 1641, but their village was almost completely burned to the ground. The present church building in Althausen was erected around 1750, and the village belonged to the parish of St. Maria Magdalena Münnerstadt. In 1839, the community built a new school building, which lost its function around 1970 when the young people were transported to Münnerstadt for schooling. Since its incorporation into Münnerstadt in 1972, the village of Althausen has made great gains. The most important prerequisite for this was the relocation of the state road 2282 from the village to the northern outskirts.
