An der Schmücke OT Braunsroda
Braunsroda, a district of the rural community of An der Schmücke, is located directly on the Hohe Schrecke, an old, unspoiled forest area. Over decades of military use, a wilderness has developed here, a habitat for rare animals and plants. From Braunsroda, guests can hike directly into the Hohe Schrecke, for example to the new suspension rope bridge in the Bärental valley. The small village has been documented since 1231, when the Lords of Heldrungen donated St. Cyriac's Chapel in Braunsroda to the Order of St. Lazarus. After the Reformation, the last representatives of the order left the village. In the 18th century, the large agricultural manor house was built, which is still the most characteristic building in Braunsroda and today houses vacation apartments and a manor café. Once a month, the popular farmers' market with many regional and handmade specialties takes place in the large courtyard.
