Anger Fountain
Anger Fountain
The Angerbrunnen fountain has been enjoyed by Erfurt residents since 1890, both as a monument to the successful completion of construction of the city's central water supply system and as a link between Erfurt's main traditional trades. In 1880, a competition was held to find a suitable monument. The competition was won by the then 38-year-old Berlin architect and craftsman Heinrich Stöckhardt (1842-1920). Stöckhardt united the Erfurt machine and arms industry with the local crafts and arts and crafts in two oversized figures. Depicted are a male figure between technical attributes such as a hammer and vice and the Roman flower goddess Flora surrounded by ears of corn and roses. The traditional agriculture and horticulture is separately emphasized by the ornamental fountain with water features in the front area. The rear area served at that time as a utility well.
